The 1915 Chicago Whales were managed by ex-Cub shortstop, Joe Tinker. Tinker, one of the first big names to jump to the Federal League. After being the starting shortstop for Chicago in 1914, he took more to managing and only took the field in 31 games. Spending more time on bench seemed to help as the Whales won the Federal League pennant, even if it was only by percentage points.
